Kizami Aojiso, or shredded aojiso, is a paste made of green (aoi) perilla (shiso) - one of the most used herbs in Japanese cuisine. Aojiso has an unique, refreshing herbal flavor, as well as a vivid green color, which is why perilla leaves are a popular decorative addition to a dish in Japan. Green shiso is also appreciated by many for its health properties, which have been used by Asian natural medicine for centuries.
Shiso paste can serve as an interesting complement to many dishes. However, it will go especially well with meat (especially chicken), as an addition to pasta, sushi, salads, and even tofu or natto.
